Merlin will eat alot of things when it takes his fancy, It should be noted that corvids are not intolerant to grains or milk based products the same way some birds are and if a bird has calcium deficiencies it can easily be rectified with things like cheese in the diet (see mark's [from crowsrus] post on the feathers and wings forum). Rooks are not as voracious with carrion as you might expect, quite often a nice rancid piece of beef will be rejected, and chicken preferred. Merlin has been trying quite a few insects for himself this year (I saw him eating a caterpillar in the garden the other day) although it has taken him a long time to get round to trying them. Things Merlin eats in brief are... Catfood, Oatcakes, Cheese, Soaked Raisins, Peas, Chick Peas, Chicken, Prawns, Grapes, Salmon, Cashew Nuts, Sunflower Seed and last but not least Beaphar Bogena Universal Proprietary Mynah bird food. This list could go on and on but those are the main things he is happy with. Please let us know if there are any special food's you have tried which work well. jo

-- Thining now he's a grackle. Not 100% positive, but he fits the description, as he is still bald around the face.

Really sorry we didn't reply before - your posting has only just come up! The Mynah bird food is made by Beaphar & is available in pet shops - Merlin's diet has been checked and approved by Vanessa at Corvidaid & he's certainly flourishing at present with a fantastic new set of feathers, flying around the farm with great dignity & poise! Hope Jadyn is doing well. jo
